The Constitution With Quill Pen

Redistribution of Wealth

Redistribution of wealth is the act of taking wealth from one person and giving it to another person. The process is done involuntarily through the use of force. Those that have the wealth are seen as money targets and are taxed as a means to alleviate a need of someone else. It is obviously good to help people, but we believe strongly that charity should be voluntary.

What the Constitution Says

Amendment Five: -- No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

Property

Property is meant as any type of material wealth that we possess. Our monies, land, homes, vehicles, and furniture are all types of property. These items are constitutionally protected. The founding fathers believed that once an individual attains wealth that they should be able to keep it.

One of the main reasons people immigrated to America was to escape heavy taxation and ominous controlling governments. The idea of keeping your wealth and not handing it over to the government was hugely important to the founders. Why? It was one of the main reasons to come to this country. Many countries had such burdensome taxes that people felt that their only option was to escape the country or to live a life as a serf (feudalism).

Taxation of Wealth

Taxes are necessary to pay for government programs. However, the problem with taxation is when it taxes us for being productive and doing the right things. It's discouraging to be forced to give a huge chunk of your money away to someone you don't know or to have it spent foolishly. The net effect of redistribution of wealth is that productivity and wealth accumulation are lower. In effect, a forced redistribution of wealth demotivates people to do the right things.

Protecting Private Property

Simply put, we need to protect private property so that we preserve the incentive to work hard, innovate, and be productive. This incentive is what attracts the best people from all over the world. Nations and states that learn to harness this attribute will become the best places to live in the world.
