The Constitution With Quill Pen

What will it take to save America

It seems like a good idea to try to describe my philosophy and to give a snapshot of why I feel, as I do, and why I believe it is a good core belief on which to judge and be judged.

Blessings of America
Being born in America is a great blessing. You have freedom as a gift at the very beginning. You grow up with choices of what to do with your life. You own things during all your years. Tricycles, wagons, bicycles, sleds, toys. Later you but a car, a home and land. You learn that property rights are good, beneficial and a blessing that many in the world never experience.

In America you are also free to use you property and your talents to your own advantage within the bounds of prudence and in so far as you don’t infringe on the property rights of another.

Freedom Brings Happiness
Most of us learn early on that this is all because the people who came here, beginning in the sixteenth century, were people who believed in liberty. They wanted to be free to exercise the full power of their creation. The wanted Freedom of Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Happiness could then exist where people had Freedom of Religion, Freedom of Expression, Freedom to Explore creative ideas and to enjoy the fruits of their labors.

As I grew up, I learned that these people, in the early days of settlements, in this land, had fought to maintain this freedom and that they established a form of government that was designed to pass liberty on, as a heritage to all who were born here or who should come here seeking freedom, as they had done.

Freedom and Responsibility
It is hard to enumerate the many advantages of having this freedom.
One thing that sometimes is not understood is that with freedom, comes responsibility. We must treat all others with the same dignity and respect that we expect from them and from the government. These feelings are casually proclaimed, in these words, "Just leave us alone to live our lives as we desire!"

Likes and Dislikes and Freedom
There are few things I hate worse than to be told I must do something or be forced to do something that I might otherwise do but I am told I must do it in a certain way that is not my choice of how I would do it.. Next on the list of dislikes is to be restricted or prevented from doing something that I want to do, isn’t really harmful to somebody else, but I am told I can’t do it by someone who has the force and power to keep me from doing it. Another dislike is when I am told I no longer have full control of muy property. I am either restricted in the use I have of it, it is taken from me, or that I can’t use it, dispose of it or change it in some way that is to my liking or advantage.

The Constitution
As I grew and learned more about our country, I discovered there was a group of men that met and came up with a document called the Constitution. It developed a form of government with limited power to rule, and no power to restrict freedom. This Constitution was the reason for the Liberty I enjoyed so much. It was also the basis on which the country was so prosperous and inventive and had advanced so fast and was ahead of most nations of the world in technology and conveniences.

I am of the opinion that all of my fellow Americans should not have any argument against the Constitution. It has given us such and an advantage in the world, and blessed our lives here, in our land. I have always believed that if all of us believed in the Constitution and would support the premise that IF WE LIVED BY IT AND SUPPORTED A GOVERNMENT THAT ADHERED TO IT THAT ALL WOULD BE WELL!

The Constitution is Under Attack
What I found out was that Not everyone believes the Constitution to be a document that can still do all that it has done in the past. They believe it should be modernized, change to fit new ideas, and take away certain rights from the people because there are more of us now and we are harder to manage and our neighbors are closer to us and we must consider their rights. There are many who have been unsuccessful in making the system work for them, and these people think that somehow the rest of us need to help them.

Principles are the Answer -- Not Government
Most of this group thinks that it must be done through the government, so the Constituion must be changed or done away, since it gives the government no power to do this.
It is my contention that what we must do is learn more about the Constitution, recognize what it has done for us, and correct the things where in the government has taken unto itself power which wasn’t given to it and return to the correct principles of the Constitution. This would be our last great hope of putting our country on the right path to renewed energy and prosperity.

How to Return to The Constitution Principles
It probably can’t be done in one big move, there is too much involved now, after years of going against the tide. That is a discussion for others over a long period of time.

At this point in time, we can’t truthfully say the Constitution has failed. We have moved far afield over the years and we haven’t lived according to it’s precepts for some time.

I do believe that with proper education regarding the founding fathers, the document they came up with, and the purpose and design of it, more of us would start to believe as I do, that the Constitution is still a valid document that will still produce and preserve freedom and a great nation of destiny.
